The Dental Crown Procedure

For damaged teeth, Dr. David P. Ney may recommend a dental crown to protect the tooth from further damage. If you are in need of a crown, watch the video below as Dr. Ney describes the dental crown procedure.

The actual crown procedure is quite simple. We’re going to get you numb. We’re going to take a little we’re going to take an impression first. That impression is going to be a template for your temporary so it’s going to be an impression of the crown that we are going to be actually prepping.

What does prepping mean? Just means prepping the crown, taking away a little bit of tooth structure, creating space for the crown itself. We do it on the top and the bottom. So on the top we have to make sure that there’s clearance.

What does clearance mean? It’s really between where the two teeth kind of oppose where you bite with the other tooth. We need to have a certain amount of space there. Just make sure that’s taken off. And then we basically create space this way. Take an impression, make a little temporary, cement that on, and you’re going home.
