The Porcelain Veneer Process Explained

In the video below, Dr. David P. Ney explains the porcelain veneer process, describing the steps he takes to ensure that you love your new smile.

Yes, so once again, what I will typically do is expectations are always a huge thing. So the patient has to let me know what are their expectations. And a lot of times what we can do is do an actual wax up. So I will take an impression of their teeth, have the lab wax up something that they are looking forward to, whether it’s an optimal shape, shade, what have you.

They will come back and they will see that and go, yeah, that’s what I want. And then what we’ll do is we’ll actually prep the teeth, which again means taking away some tooth structure. In the case of a veneer, all we’re doing is covering the front part of the tooth. I might go into the sides of the teeth so that the teeth kind of wrap around just a little bit.

But the great thing is, from the wax up, we make a temporary so the patient can see exactly what they’re going to look like, how they’re going to speak, how they’re going to chew, and then they can tell us if they want any kind of modifications and if that is the time in which we will modify.

And then I might take an impression of that modification for the lab, so when they make the veneers, it’ll be exactly like that.
