Can I Get a New Tooth the Same Day of an Extraction?
If you need a tooth extracted, you may already be thinking about when you should replace the tooth. Some patients wonder if they should get a new tooth the same day as their extraction. In the video below, Dr. David P. Ney describes his philosophy for tooth replacement to ensure you get the best result possible.
You can get a new tooth. It’s dependent upon whether or not once we take that CT and once we look at those options, can we get an absolute new tooth once it’s extracted? I would say, typically, that’s not the way I want to go. It’s not as predictable.
So you can do it, but the actual predictability of it isn’t as high as allowing things to heal. Whether we use a temporary in that situation and give it three months to heal, whether we use what’s called a flipper. Are flippers great? No. Do does anybody really like those? No. But are they a really good Band Aid? Yes. And so we can put one in there that has a plastic tooth and allows that implant to heal. That’s the way to go.
